The Burlington-Graham Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. (BGJJ) joined the national body in 1956, as its 80th chapter. Mrs. Juanita F. Spaulding, a mother who had the vision and hope, formed an interest group called the “Guys and Dolls”.
The 18 BGJJ Charter members included: Edith Long,Doris Gray, Mae Earl, Odessa Davis Juanita Spaulding, Dorothy Leath, Nora Woods, Maggie Bell Herbin, Ms. R.L. Carmichael, Mary F. Murray, Mary Shanks,Codelia Faucette, Leal Warren, Mary McIntyre, Annie Mae Foriest, Julia Jordan, Ida Mae Harvey, Catherine Thompson, and Hazel Jeffreys. The installation ceremony of the Burlington-Graham Chapter was held on September 29, 1956, at the home of Odessa Davis.
In April 2009, per the resolutions of the 2010 National Convention, the members of our sister Danville chapter voted to dissolve their chapter, and the boundaries of the Burlington-Graham Chapter were expanded to include all existing zip codes as well as all zip codes within the following North Carolina and Virginia counties: Alamance, Pittsylvania, Caswell, Rockingham, Halifax and Henry - including the towns of Whitsett and Gibsonville, NC.
The Burlington-Graham Chapter continues to provide meaningful activities for its children and has remained active in the community for over six decades.
The Burlington-Graham Chapter of Jack & Jill continues to support our national programs with March of Dimes, Founder’s Day, Bedtime Stories, and Black Family Day. The families of Burlington-Graham chapter strive for excellence in sharing life-long experiences and to be positive role models for all children and our community.
